Great-grandmother Annie Woods and her father Patrick Byrne

I am so excited. After years of research, I have received the following information:

"WOODS, (Mrs.) Annie.

Wife of Charles Woods, Esq. Builder and Contractor, Doornfontein Johannesburg,T.
Born near Grahamstown, C.P.
Daughter of Patrick Byrne Esq.
Education. Greenhill Convent, Bloemfontein, O.F.S.
Member. Agricultural Soc.; S.A.N.U. and various local charities.
Her husband is the owner of a large Stud Farm adjoining the Govt. Stud Farm, Standerton, T.
Favourite Recreaction. Tennis and outdoor sports.

3 daughters, 2 sons- May, Constance, Ivy; Reginald, Harold.

Add: Northwold Lodge, Doornfontein, Johannesburg, T."

My comments: Having this information opens up many doors in what was a brick wall. Having received Annie's name and that of her father in very valuable information. Furthermore, we now know that there was another daughter, May who was still alive in 1938 (the year of the source of this information).
Having the address of the house where my granny lived as a child is very special to me.

After the death of my parents, in 2003, I developed a desire to find out more about my ancestors. Who were they, what they did and why I think the way I do! So began a journey ifrom the past, which has indeed answered many questions about the present! I am only sorry that I did not pay more attention as a youngster when my aunties and parents spoke about family history. Today there are so still many questions which will probably remain unanswered.

So far, I have gathered data on the Buchanan, Brickhill, Hedgcock, and Egenes family way back into the 1700’s.
The history of my paternal grandfather (Mckenzie) and maternal grandfather (Woods) is proving to be difficult to trace.
I am capturing all the data onto a computer program known as My Heritage, which can be downloaded from the internet. The data file is in GEDCOM format. Anyone wishing to obtain a
copy of my information is welcome to contact me. This research has already taken many years of work and will continue into the future. Although I do not sell my work, any donations towards this research, will be greatly appreciated. Obtaining birth and death certificates, as well as the assitance of full-time researchers does cost money!

Contributions of information, documents, press articles, photographs etc, are always welcome. For example, my brother
Colin sent me a box of memorabilia that he had collected. What a wonderful collection of documents, letters and photographs. The challenge is to match the photographs to the people's names, so please remember to include any information you have..
